Halloween Finished

This is based of a sketch I did and I then began to photoshop in the colour and the shape. I haven't finished yet. There is quite alot more to do.
I would have liked to have made him look more evil. But i didn't have time. Nor did i know how to do that. My favourite part is the little pumpkin that is getting eaten, I think it is done much better than the larger one.
I do however like how unblended it is and sketchy I think that adds to it.
I would have liked to have got more detail on the larger pumpkin and sort out the perspective issues.

Adding additions to the Libary

This week we have all got along with various things for our libary.
In joint coallition myself and Alex have modelled the end windows for the libary. To fun success.
I have also modelled two low poly chairs, one computer chair and one comfy chair. I have also begun adding the undercroft rooms as well as the elevator and toilet rooms.

 102 polys
This chair was modelled by myself and then textured by Jack
 108 polys
This table was modelled by Sam (the polys were reduced by me) and finally textured by Jack.

1364 polys
The bookcase was modelled by Alex - the books modelled by Sam - I then reduced the polys and arranged the books in such a way that they looked a bit more varied. And it was textured by Jack

380 polys
This computer chair was modelled by me and textured by Jack.

302 polys
This toliet was modelled by Alex, optimized by me and unwrapped and textured by Jack.

 104 polys
The original one was modelled by alex, but this has been altered by myself (as it needed more shelves and I removed the middle parts) and we have had to make the books a plane (to make less polys) and this was done by Jack
174 polys
This was original modelled by Sam, but it was far to high poly and the geomtry was off, so based around his original model - this is the new one i created. Jack unwrapped and textured it.

This was created and textered (his own painting) by Jack. This is the main curtain that you see when you go into the library.
The staircase and poles were created by me and unwrapped and textured by jack. The floor textured was created by Jack and applied by myself.

Halloween Sketches

As soon as the project came up I knew exactly what I wanted to draw.
So I started straight out with some sketches and I also used Mudbox to create a quick rough (bottom right). I am happy with how the idea is coming along.
The reason I haven't bothered with many other sketches is because I knew straight away that this is what I wanted to do.

Halloween Research

For this project we were to create a monster, character or creature concept in the style of Halloween.

As soon as we were given this project I knew I wanted to do a pumpkin eating another pumpkin! I know I should explore ideas so I will sketch out another idea or two, but I do really want to do the pumpkins.

These are gunna be my reference images :D
Its a good example of what I am going for and references of what the pumpkin skin looks like, as well as the shape of the pumpkin, and how the eyes look when they are cut.

Tree Finished

As my idea progressed I took the person out of the final image.
This is my tree. Its a little different from what I wanted but I just couldn't get it right. Deffo not good with trees.
There are many things I would have liked to have changed, I think the trunk needs a little more light to stand out, and perhaps a tad thicker. I maybe would have also done the tree smaller on the piece so you could have seen the entire silhouette of the tree, I think that would have made for a more dramatic piece.

Tree Sketches

I am really not sure what to do with this project. I don't know how to draw environments or trees. I would like to be taught, but because I know I wont do a good job with it, it's hard to think of anything good
The general idea with these sketches though is that the person is all alone and the only thing there is a tree to look after them.
I like this end sketch because it seems like the end. I like the idea of the tree taking center stage of the piece.

Tree Research

For this project we were asked to create an effect with trees. As in a character tree. Something that gives a place an atmosphere.

So here I began doing some research I am not sure what kind of atmosphere I am looking for but a couple of the images have given me a little bit of an idea.
The white tree, pink tree and the bottom are the kind of things that I really like. I like the tree being all alone and growing in the middle of no where. But I also like the idea of a tree growing out through a building so I will give a couple of skecthes a go and see how they come out. :)

Surreal Finished

This is my finished piece.
As it was surreal I wanted to keep it all a little bit floaty so not to much detail.
Although that is the case, looking back i would have liked to have given them some more roots rather than stumps, and given the leaves more details. Also I did draw this without a tablet, so i am going to have to use that next time.

Surreal Sketches

These are my sketches for the surreal project.
I had a few different ideas. One I haven't included is a skeleton in a coffin and another skeleton crying over it - because it is a little to difficult to draw. So i don't think it is something I will go for.
This was my first idea to have someone diving into concrete but have other people walking on it. Its not depicted very well, but you get the idea.

This is was to have objects larger than they would be in real life. I think i picked the wrong item, but I don't want to continue with this idea.

This is somethign I really like the idea of. Trees with clothes. At the moment it looks like fire but that will change when I colour it in.

I thought I would elaborate more on the trees idea, and I liked the idea of them dancing. So I will look into that more.

Library modelling

So Alex finished the grey box. Ready to be put into unity when we get it.
Jack has made an awesome piece for the curtain.
I finished modelling the staircase. The polys were a little high so spent most of the time editing them down. But I am very happy with how it came out!
Also took a few more pictures of the library for reference. :)

Surreal Research

This weeks project was to create a 'Surreal' concept
I wasn't sure what kind of thing to do with this research as most surreal stuff creeps me out.
The first person I researched was MC Escher - I like his work because there are different ways of looking at it. Like this one looks like its going straight out but if you look further up its going horizontal.
The next image is Salvador Dalis swans and elephants. I like this one because it is a subtle bit of surrealism.
The image underneath is something I like the thought of doing, having a normal everyday object larger than a human. I think it looks really good.
The next image is another Salvador Dali piece - I dislike his colour scheme - but I like this one because of the story behind it.
I thought the next image was quite interesting, having the coke logo melt off and the cars looking like little ducks.
This is another photography piece that I liked, it is really interesting when the human is bigger than objects.
The next image is a little creepy but I thought it looked really good.
This image was quite cool, having the cards that large, the only bad thing about it is that with the cards in that position you wouldn't add another card on top.
This image was quite an interesting one, having the water floating like that.
This image was a little bit strange I am not sure what it is trying to do but it is very well done.
Although this is photo manipulation I think it looks brilliant, a little gloomy but very well done. Gives the piece feeling.
This is a painting of the centaur - although this one is based of a myth it is still surreal because you wouldn't have a cow and an human blended together.
I thought this picture was cool, a zip unveiling the desert from the water.
This picture is my favourite I like the photo manipulation - how the road blends so well into the grass and that it looks like he is dragging a sheet.
I will now go and do some sketches.

Finished Robot

I decided to continue with the original idea that I had. But I was really unhappy with how it was coming out. He just wasn't matching the environment. So I came up with a new idea.

Final

I am much happier with how this one came out and it looks like it is suppose to be like this. I also think this turned out better than my tentacle sketch.
There are a few perspective issues and lighting issues, also the vine round his neck should be tight not loose. But I do like it :)
I like the moss growing on the side of him too. In the future I would have liked to have modelled something like this, however if I did that I wouldn't have had time to do any kind of background.

After Effects

Had our first after effects lesson today! Was very good.
I will add updates to the stuff we did later.

The Next Level

Had our first meeting with Mark today - been told to do some reading - So i thought I would keep my thoughts and research here about it. But at the moment we haven't done anything so I can't include much :p

Robot Sketches

I have spent the day trying to come up with an idea of what I would want to do for the robot. I have really struggled as it isn't something that I am use to trying to do. But I have given it a go.
My first idea was to do a rabbit. I was fine with how the face turned out but after that it just went really wrong. I will give a few more sketches a go before I give up on the idea.

Here i have stopped with the Rabbit idea as it wasn't turning out how i wanted.
This is a sketch of on my original idea of the robot broken in the forest. He looks a little strange at this angle. I've added colour so you can understand what is going on. (you couldn't understand the colourless sketch)

This is him sorted out a little bit, and he makes more sense now, i'm not sure if this is the angle I want him at, but we will see what happens when i start the final piece.

Virtual Campus

We have been given our project for the Virtual campus and our teams part is the Library!
After we assigned 'basic' roles -
Dani - Group Producer and 3D
Alex - Producer Liaison and 3D
Sam - 2D and 3D
Adrian - 2D and 3D
Jack - 2D

So on Friday we went around and measured the entirety of the library building as well as most of the inside.

We also measured some of the objects that we were each going to model. (these are things that we think are important - and there is still some more but this is just the first stage)
 The ones I am in charge of are;
Undercroft classrooms (designs)
Modelling the 5 different chairs in the Library
The stair case, including the railings
The bridge
Quiet area.
Although it doesn't seem like a lot - the chairs are going to take me the longest.

Robot Research

The task this week is to create a Robot.
My initial idea might take a little to long so i might have to think of something different. But it is to have the robot sitting down broken, with leaves and stuff over growing on him. But that might take far to long. So I will see what my thought process is after I have done some of the research :)

These are a few robots that I liked the idea off.
Starting from left to right -
The first image is of the two robots from portal. I thought these two were a good example because the imitate human movements and reactions but aren't in a human form (as such) which I like.
The next image is off Wall-e. Cutest robot, an entire film without speech and every emotion created through this little robot is fantastic and with such a simple design.
I then had a thought about creating a creatue that was robot shaped so the next two images are off flies - they look amazing, the colour scheme and the intricate details look amazing, this is something that i might be interested in trying.
The next image is of a wolf this one is drawn rather than modeled. It still looks amazing, I think that little splash of colour makes all of the difference.
The next image is an owl made out of actual parts. Thought it was a really clever way to build something up.
I liked the colour scheme on this robot which is which i put him in. Also the simplicity of his design.
I liked this image because it looked like a creature rather than humanoid and i really like the colours.
I liked this image because of the colour scheme, I think that bright colour really works on clean looking robots.
This image is included because it looks like anything could be inside that shell (not just a human)
This is Rex from Metal Gear Solid - its the only weapon robot that I have included because they don't really interest me, but this one did look good because (in the game) it does yell like a creature would so I thought it was a different addition.

These are a few concept images that really looked like something I wanted to do (as i stated earlier in the post)
The first image is the exact position of what I wanted the robot to be in, looking broken - the 2nd and 4th images were the colour schemes that I wanted to go for and the trees growing over.
The 3rd image was more i just thought it looked epic and powerful.
I will now begin sketching some ideas down for the next stage. The researching has really helped.

Finished Tentacle

As I progressed in colouring fluffy I felt that his fluffy bit just looked silly and decided to take it away.

This is what I ended up with. I got a little to carried away with shadows (he isn't finished yet as you can tell from the eyes). Next time I will try a different way of shadow and lighting as with dodge and burn it is difficult to rectify mistakes (hence the stripy right arm).

After careful consideration, I felt that he looked really silly with the larger eyes. So I decided to go with a smaller ones. They make him look like a creature now rather than something cute. He does have 10 tentacles ^^.
The shading could definitely be improved, I won't be using dodge and burn for that again.

Tentacle Colours

After changing my little squidgys in photoshop to look basically how I would want them to at the end I began to play around with there colour a little.

These is the little swatch of colours I was fiddling with. They look cartoony at the moment but it won't at the end.
I got the colours from the images I found originally, because I still wanted it to look like a natural colour. I haven't bothered with any shading or anything at the moment because I just wanted to get an idea of what the creature would look like in that kind of colour.
Many of them I didn't like, and keeping the tentacles and the body the same colour really doesn't work.
The bottom row is the final selection of colours that I decided on - I have decided to use fluffy in a red colour. I am not sure whether to spot or stripe him at the moment. I will decide that when I come down to adding the final touches.

Tentacle Sketch

These are a few of my sketches from my sketchbook on a couple ideas I had for the tentacle project.

(Apologises for the incorrect rotation it won't turn around)

This was my first page of sketches, my initial idea is that I didn't want it to look creepy. So I started with the top right image, but it just looked a little bit silly and without any kind of personality.
I then went on the top left, this just didn't look right at all, the eyes ended up looking very silly.
Next i worked on the middle image, I really like how this one came out, he looks like he is the mini king of the sea - I also like that his tentacle is holding a stick.
The final image on this page, I thought I would try drawing a squid, really don't like how it came out, so I will probably stick with the cuttle looking fish.

This is the next page of sketches. I thought I would try another squid, but still looks just as bad as the first attempt.
Next is the little shell - I don't really like this because it just restricts what you can do with the tentacles.
The next is the fluffy middle image - I really like this one, I like how his tentacles look like a beard.
This little image didn't end up going very well. He looks a bit special.
Going back to the king looking fish I thought I would change his eyes a little bit, he looks more alien like this, but i do prefer the tentacles in this one. So i may incorporate them two together.
I don't go into much detail in my sketches as it bugs me if they don't look correct and I don't want to spend the whole time on doing sketches.

My favourite two are the king and fluffy one. These ones I will pay a little more attention to in Photoshop and start looking at different colours to use.
